Infrared Heating Myths: What’s True and What’s Not

Infrared heating is still relatively new in the mainstream and like any emerging technology, it’s surrounded by myths, misinformation, and half-truths. In this article, we’ll unpack some of the most common myths and help you separate fact from fiction. But we’re not giving away everything here, you’ll need to follow ARC Thermal on LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram to keep up with the full myth-busting series!

Myth 1: Infrared heating is dangerous

Not true. Infrared heating uses the same type of heat as the sun but without the damaging UV. It’s completely safe for homes, offices, schools, healthcare settings and more. In fact, it’s often considered healthier than convection heating because it doesn’t circulate dust or allergens.

Myth 2: Infrared heaters only heat what’s in front of them

Partially true and that’s the beauty of it. Infrared heats objects and people directly, not the air. That means less waste, faster warmth, and better energy efficiency. But with correct positioning, infrared can heat whole rooms and maintain a consistent, comfortable temperature.

Myth 3: Infrared is more expensive to run

In most cases, it’s actually cheaper. Compared to traditional convection systems, infrared panels can offer up to 60% energy savings. It also requires less maintenance and lasts longer helping you cut costs over time.

Myth 4: Infrared is only suitable for modern buildings

Wrong. Infrared works brilliantly in heritage properties, churches, village halls and more. Because it heats directly and doesn’t rely on air movement, it’s particularly effective in spaces with high ceilings or poor insulation.

Myth 5: You can’t control infrared heating

This one is ripe for myth-busting… but we’re saving it for social. Follow us to get the facts and see how smart infrared really is.
